Women's Royal Indian Navel Service (WRINS)
at GHQ Delhi - 1945.

Group Photograph of Officers of the
Women's Royal Navel
Service (WRINS).
Photo's above presented to The
Nautical Club by
Committee member Mrs D M Downes
(ex P.O. WRIN D M Thornton). The WRINS came under
the umbrella of the Women's Auxilary Corps (India)
(WAC(I) which was formed early in World War II
to assist British Armed Forces in India, India being a
British colony, enlistment was voluntary &
personnel were multi-racial. The WAC(I)s and WRINS
disbanded on the cessation of hostilities and the
withdrawal of British troops from India as they came
under British Army Regulations.
The WAC(I) Association hold a Re-union
luncheon each
year at the Victory Services Club, London. This has been
in existence for some 50 years and is held
usually in October.
